BickMagic 2011
Registration is now open for BrickMagic 2011 in Raleigh, North Caroline May 5th to the 8th.
http://www.brickmagic.org/
This was hands down the most fun I had at an AFOL convention last year. It wasn't the biggest but the MOCs were first class, the fellow AFOL's were awesome and all the staff involved were beyond cool. I highly recommend this event.
BrickMagic 2010
For those of you planing to go it's time to start planing. Mike Tighe has already started a thread for hotel rooms.
We'll be displaying a train layout again this year. I need to know who is interested in coming and if you would like to contribute to our train display. WamaLTC has also expressed interest in possibly doing a joint train layout with us but nothing has been decided yet.
So lets here it. Who is committed to going and who is willing to participate in a train layout?

Re: BickMagic 2011
I'll be there. Wendy, Emma and I are going. I also think that my sister in-law will be tagging along. (There cousin lives in Charlotte, NC.) We will not get there until around lunch time +/- on Friday.
Yes, I will be pcontributing to the Train layout.
It was my first Fan event, and yes, it was GREAT! Can't wait

We have to pay as exhibitors too. I think it was $50 per person last year, but the goodies were well worth it. You have to register as an exhibitor if you plan on displaying even with a group.
Evie and I are planning on attending.
Re: BickMagic 2011
I will be there possibly with Diane also will need a room
and will be particapating with the layout can bring mocs for layout just need to see what the space we will have
also do we pay online or can we send a group payment maybe discuss at next meeting

Re: BickMagic 2011
Tony, you register and pay online as a individual. PenLUG isn't registered its just listed as a club that will be there. Joe Meno already knows we are coming so he went ahead and listed us. Also if you are able to go down early on wensday they are having the second anual brick films festival which Cale and I attended last year and it was quite fun. Especially sitting around the bar and chit chatting afterwards.
Re: BickMagic 2011
I will be attending. I will contribute to the train layout where needed. I am also planning an Atlantis themed diorama which will be 16 baseplates (48 x 48 each).
I registered a room in my name and have room for one more person. I will probably drive down in a rented car, but can coordinate with someone if it works out.

I was talking with Joe Meno today and he is looking for ideas for fun activities for BrickMagic. He is also looking for theme coordinators. If you have a suggestion for some thing or want to be a coordinator you can contact him at.

I need your MOC space requirements for our Brickmagic Train Layout.
Alright guys. Brickmagic is coming up really fast and I need to get a train/town layout plan together asap so I can give them our space requirements. If you are going and bringing MOCs for the layout or if you're not going but still want to send MOCs along I need to know right away. I primarily concerned with buildings as cars and other small details can be worked in where space allows.
I need to know size (baseplates or stud increments) and any special needs such as corner building. I need to know by the April meeting next Saturday at the absolute latest.
Thank You

Re: BickMagic 2011
Cale, I have not decided if I am going, but I am willing and happy to send anything I have that someone is willing to take charge of. The subway is fairly easy to set up, and I can make up some directions for how to wire 12v track if nobody knows how. I have my two town buildings (one is a corner). The port can go if somebody wants to deal with it. If not, I can send vehicles from it.
Re: BickMagic 2011
I love BrickMagic, and was planning on attending, but silly Pennridge did NOT ask me what dates wuld be OK for the Jr Prom, so I have to figure out what I am doing. I will probably not go to BrickMagic. So that I can be here for Trev's prom. Grrrrrr. I wanna go to both things. Will talk about it at the meeting.
Re: BickMagic 2011
Here is what I am planning on brining to Brick Magic:
Construction Site: 4 wide x 4 deep (all 32x32) Cale, this includes your 1 road construction plate. I might need 1 filler landscape plate, but that can be worked on since we recieved the Jim's list order.
Grand Emporiums : Corner and Straight sections both 32x32
Ice Cream Shop & Urban Courtyard both 48x48
Downtown Bldg (not sure what to call it - leaning towards hotel?) 32x32
Skateboard Park currently 48x48, but I would like to enlarge to (4) 32x32 (in a square)
Plus misc vehicles as needed.
I could bring the Cargo Train if wanted? Let me know
Hope this helps
Brian

If you can't make it Nate we would gladly take your buildings and Subway. I'm not sure if any of us want to tackle the port though.

Do we want to do the XL Grand Emporium again? We'll need 3 more corner sections for that correct?
I'll plan for 4 32x32 square Skate Park and if need be we can always fill in with other stuff if necessary.
Bring the Cargo Train if you don't mind. It's always good to have the stock trains on hand to show the public.
Thanks
Cale
Re: BickMagic 2011
We can turn the Grand Emporium onto a side street, (since most of it is stock,) and only need 1 more corner. Total of 3 baseplates. Especially if Nate's Corner Building is going?
I will have the Skate park 4 - 32x32's by Brick Magic.
And that's not a problem to bring the Cargo Train.

Re: BickMagic 2011
You can use all my buildings from the previous events as well as the radio station and Old Glory building. I'll type up a list with all the buildings and their dimensions later. Can you have roads running down both sides of City Hall this time? I think that would look great. I'll see if I can build a road section or two. I might also build a corner building or something else before May.
Here's the catch: I have no confirmed ride to BrickMagic yet. If I can't make it, it's no big deal. Will someone be able to pick up my MOCs beforehand? The meeting at KCs isn't too far from Philly, so maybe someone with a a roomy car could stop down afterwards and pick everything up?

Re: BickMagic 2011
I will not be going to BrickMagic. I will be sending my Snail Emporium for the train layout. I can also send the porta-potty, and my PennLUG cargo container. I will NOT be sending Brick Park, because it is a pain to setup cause the trees don't travel well. IF you guys want it, I can send a "mini-park" that is easy to setup, and uses those cool water crossing wooden bridges Cale made. Let me know ASAP if you want it, so I can get it together before the parts separating at Cale's on the 16th. It could be 1x2 32 baseplates, and just be water, or 2x2 baseplates, and also use the small "flagstop" station that Cale built for it, and have an area for people to be in it. I am really gonna miss not being there.
Re: BickMagic 2011
I'll also have a 48x32 building to add to the downtown section of the layout. It could be used as a corner building on either side.
Re: BickMagic 2011
Cale,
I have two modular buildings, 32 x 32 each, for the train layout.
The Cartography Shop
And a new Haberdashery (the reddish brown clothing store)

Here is version 1.0 of our Brickmagic Train/Town Layout plan.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/steampoweredbricks/5614644185/in/photostream
I believe I have everything included that has been listed as coming. This layout is roughly 20ftx30ft with plenty of room inside for manning operations. The downtown section is just a general plan. We can move and adjust things as needed.
Brian- I'm hopping the placement of the construction site will work. If not we can move it. Just let me know what's needed.
Rob- As requested we have side streets flanking your City Hall. Also I don't think Nate will have the port ready to work in your Radio Station but I think where I have it placed we can include the water and tower and reasonably fake it.
Mike Tighe- Are you still willing to set up Nate's Port?
Tony E.- Did you get the ballasted switch plan I sent you? And if so would you have any ready for this event? We will also need the tables you have back for this event.
We need two more Grand Emporiums to complete the Grander Emporium. It requires a total of 4 corners and one center. Brian has the center section and a corner and Tony S. will be bringing a corner. If you have one to bring please let me know.

Re: BickMagic 2011
Looks great! I still think we could use one or two more side streets to break up the bigger downtown blocks. Assuming we sort through all the Jim parts this weekend, I should be able to build a few sections.
Good idea to just list one big downtown section instead of trying to figure out a spot for each specific building right now.
The radio station would work where you put it, but I'll need to build out more water or at least a more coastline for it. I'll work on that.
If no one else can bring one, I can bring my Grand Emporium, but I'll already have quite a few boxes to pack and bring along already.

I would like to add more cross streets but I will not have enough brick to do it for this event. I'm already needing to build another intersection, crossing, and one main street section.
rgb wrote:Good idea to just list one big downtown section instead of trying to figure out a spot for each specific building right now.
Yeah. I figured you and Brian could work your magic once again. It's easier to arrange things when you have the buildings right in front of you.
rgb wrote:The radio station would work where you put it, but I'll need to build out more water or at least a more coastline for it. I'll work on that.
Either would work. I don't think we need anything elaborate. Just something to blend it into the landscape. I think having the radio towers will be worth the effort.
rgb wrote:If no one else can bring one, I can bring my Grand Emporium, but I'll already have quite a few boxes to pack and bring along already.
I have a corner but I'll need to build it. We'll see if anyone has any to lend first.
