It was working yesterday morning but not now. I assume it's been taken down.

Yeah, not working any more. There weren't any new images that I saw, but the product description was kind of interesting.

Here is the description.

The highly-realistic Maersk diesel-electric freight train has arrived!

A replica of the real engine that operated on the railroads of America, this Maersk train features exceptional detailing and functions, such as opening driver's cab, removable side panel revealing a detailed, 16-cylinder engine, and authentic Maersk branding. The model also includes 2 wagons and 3 containers with opening doors (1 with refrigeration detailing). The set also includes a shunter truck and detachable trailer for loading and offloading the containers. Add LEGO®️ Power Functions to motorize!
Containers can be loaded side-by-side or stacked!
Includes 3 workman minifigures!
Train measures 36"" (92cm) long!
Building instructions include a historical description of the LEGO Group/A.P. Moller Maersk Group cooperation and a timeline of the products launched!
Motorize your Maersk train by adding LEGO Power Functions #8878 Rechargeable Battery Box, #8887 Transformer 10V DC, #8884 IR Receiver, #8879 IR Speed Remote Control and #88002 Train Motor!

And yeah, I want royalties for the engine under the hood idea. Laughing

The Maersk Train is now officially announced.

Detailed photos can be found here.

Here is the video of it's official intro at LEGO World in Copenhagen.

There's a reason I like the design of this set and now I know why. It was designed by Pierre Normandin who also designed the Red Passenger Train set from last year that I love so much. Pierre is a former AFOL from Canada. I met him several years ago at Brickfest before he was hired by LEGO and I have been an admirer of his work. Here is his Brickshelf gallery from his AFOL days.

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?m=pnorm

I was always a big fan of his vehicles and this one in particular.

Well, after a nerdily exhaustive investigation of those photos, I have come to the conclusion that they've gone out of their way to keep the variety of Maersk blue parts to a minimum. There are 1x4 plates, but I can't find any other 1xX anywhere. It's still a very nice set, and the $120 price tag is reasonable for the parts count, but would it have killed them to put a 1x1 plate in there? They actually use a tile where they should use a plate.

Overall I like the set very much. I just think that the PennLUG Yard truck designs are better, and more accurate. Mine, Cale's Nate's... Smile

Yeah, it's not bad for a set, but the ones you and Cale came up with are much better proportioned. On the other hand, Cale's only sits a minifig with no legs...

I have a feeling the economy in Maersk part variety is to keep the price in check. It wouldn't surprise me if the Maersk parts are done with pre colored ABS pellets. LEGO uses a dye coloring process now for all their part with the exception of a few colors (Dark Red is one). When they use pre colored pellets it locks them into using one supplier and that can drive up costs and add to that the Maersk may be a licensed color, means this could be a pricey color for LEGO to mold. Every time they switch colors in the molds it cost production time and money. I can see why they might want to mold as few different parts in Maersk blue and make the most of the ones they do. I've been told the Maersk Train wouldn't have been created without the re-edition of the Container ship. It seems LEGO wants to get as much milage for as little cost as they can from the color.

That being said would it have killed them to up the price a little bit for a few more Maesrk part types? This isn't a normal retail set, it's a LEGO Direct set like the Cafe Corner buildings and the Tower Bridge. $119.99 is a great price for the set but I think they could have got away with $129, $139, or even #149 for a few more Maersk parts. I mean it's Maersk, AFOL's go nut over the color.

It's still a nice set though and I'll be buying a few I'm sure.

Oh yeah, our design is much better, but there are details on it that probably wouldn't fly for an official set.

And who needs legs to drive any way. Your lucky I could fit a driver at all and keep the scale right. Laughing

I mean, honestly, I've heard they have fully-automated yard trucks at some ports. Those workers should be happy they only had to lose their legs to keep their jobs.

Hey Tony, that part may be coming out in a new set thats not out yet. If you notice, the grey one that comes on the Maersk train isn't listed on bricklink yet either.
