News of LEGO's summer sets are trickling out from the London Toy Fair.

Brickset Report 1

Brickset Report 2

While LEGO isn't allowing photos of the sets apparently they said nothing about the outside of the booth so Huw from Brickset took a few.

LotR

I beginning to feel a bit more optimistic about the Lord of the Rings line. The sets sound good, the new posable horse will be cool, and the figs look pretty good. Oddly my first thought on seeing the rendering for the ring was, this could be useful for snot building.

Marvel

I'm more excited about the Marvel line than I a'm about the DC one. I especially want the Captain America fig. When ever I get around to building that WWII troop train I may be tempted to break my bias against using Super Heroes and quietly slip him onto the train. I doubt any one will get the joke though.

Monster Fighters

I was skeptical of this the Monster Fighters theme at first. But it's starting to warm up on me. Drac, Frankinstien's Monster, and the Wolf Man are cool but this isn't the first time LEGO has done them so the novelty has worn off. Hopefully they have some other cool monsters in store as well. The hero figs though look sweet! I'm going to have to pick up a few of those.

Also, I bet the Wolf man's claws came from Wolverine.

I agree on the Marvel thing. The Batman stuff is just rehashed. LOTR sounds good too. And poseable horses? I wish I had those a long time ago. My favorite fig from the monster fighters line is the guy with the derby hat. He's got that 1930s gangster vibe. Now if they would only make that hat in brown and black!

So here's a pic of an aerial shot of the new LOTR line. It's kind of hard to make out everything but if you blow up the picture you get a general idea of what each set might be like.

I would need to see more detailed shots to make a final decision but, for now, I can't say that I'm all that impressed with what's there. Good for figs and maybe parts but not much else. The two sets on the right look like they might be pretty good. I could be wrong but it looks like there's some premolded baseplates in some of these sets. If you look at the one on the far left, the base seems to be molded in such a way reminiscent of That Inferior brand, and it seems to be multicolored (green and brown).

You can make out the horse. It seems more stylistically similar to the larger animals Lego has been making lately. Definitely a future lugbulk item!

Maybe high-res pics will change my mind. Can't wait to see them.
