Terminology

Hello all! Being fairly new to the hobby, I've been doing a lot of research on various LEGO sites, including learning the LEGO lingo. I've come across the term "snot" and am not quite sure what this term stands for. (And yes, I do know it is NOT referring to nasal drainage! LOL ) Anyway, any input on this term would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

SNOT (short for Studs Not On Top) refers to several advanced building techniques (mostly featured in MOCs but also in some official sets) where the involved LEGO pieces are implemented in a way so that they don't end up with their studs facing upwards, as usual, but rather being at the sides or the bottom of a structure.

Thanks, Cale! Now it makes sense when someone comments on a particular creation saying: "Nice snot on that truck"! A lot of LEGO railroad equipment I've seen then would fall into this catagory...gives it a "cleaner" look, so to speak. Thanks also for the 2 great links!!! I tell ya, research can be as much fun as building!
