I need some input from anyone interested in the space layout we are doing at BrickMagic. I need to know how much table space to ask Joe for. I can fill tons by myself, but I would rather see more MOCs this year than old space sets. Nate mentioned he can fill (4) 48x48 base plates. That's about 1/2 a table.

Peter, if you haven't already, could you PLEASE Smile fix the brick built landing plates for us. That's easily almost 1 table right there. I would like to do 4-5 tables again.

Some of what was talked about last night at the KoP meeting was the space base this year was going to look like it is under construction. If anyone is up to building some kind of crane system that we can use to make it look like it's setting corridors into place that would be awesome. Space looking construction vehicles would be very welcomed too. I have lots of corridors built already. Joel, your mecha construction site would look great doing this if your not going to use it for anything else right now, I'd love to borrow it.

Mike T., I would love for you to head up the monorail if you're up to building it yourself. Let me/us know what parts other than track you might need. Both Nate and myself have running trains. I (hopefully) will have a wind farm to be setting up in addition to the space base.

Please feel free to chime in. I really want to see this happen.

Thanks,
Mac

I'm not planning to attend BrickMagic, but my Spyrius Mega Core Magnetizer (needs a new name- Mega Core Infiltrator?) is available. I'll see if I can bash some more spacey stuff together to send and bring it to the April meeting.

Chris, I need to show you my clone fortress. We might be able to easily change it to a Blactron fortress and then put some BTII landing plates around it. It would be nice to have some black baseplates.

David (and anyone else not attending BrickMagic), I would love to have your ships, moon base modules, MOC's etc. for the layout. The more custom we can make it, the better it will be. An army base won best space layout last year.

One note: If anyone is planning on sending a MOC, please let me know so I can get it registered with Joe Meno. Also a brief description on a 3x5 card would be helpful to answer questions presented by attendees.

I'm just going to throw this out there. You guys can do with this idea what you want. This weekend I was talking with Joe Meno about Brickmagic and told him that some PennLUGers were planing to do a space layout. It turns out GFLUG is planing on doing a moonbase layout for Brickmagic. I think you can see where this is going. Joe posed the question of weather our two clubs may like to collaborate with each other. I'm not involved with the space layout but I said I'd pass the idea along. Weather or not you guys are interested is up to you.

Joe had mentioned that they might be doing a space layout, but I never had it confirmed. I am game if the other club members are game.

Robin Werner is heading up the GFLUG Moonbase. I don't know his email but I'm sure Joe can give it to you.

I wasn't necessarily having anything of mine connect in a standard moonbase way this time around, but I don't mind sharing space I guess.

I am going to contact Robin and see what they are planning. Either way, I still need to know how much space to ask Joe for. PLEASE let me know who is bringing what so I can let him know.

I've got another 1x2 48x48 plate thing in the works. Depending on space it could be in addition to or instead of the 2x2 plate thing I already promised. You also have my sets, so they take up whatever space they take up I guess.

Nate, can you pack up your monorail. Time permitting, I might try to get it running at the show.

I could if I had it. If you don't, it must be at Cale's still. I may have a different monorail solution to offer, though. One thst takes up less space, even. Give me a couple days.

I gave you all the track and the train back a while ago. I haven't heard anything from Mike T. so I'd like to have something on hand. I need to contact Robin too about the layout. I have your other space sets minus about 60 red hands Wink

I have Nate's monorail and track and I'm holding it for ransom until all my demands are met. lol!

But seriously I do have them and I can make sure they find their way onto the trailer when the time comes.

Hi Mike,

Sorry about the slow reply... It has been nuts lately. Anyways yes I would like to do a joint space/moonbase layout. Please send me some specific info on your layout items and I will work them into the moonscape. I want to basically do a sci fi train display... There will be space trains, monorail, etc moving about and I need to make it look some what coherent...

So send me some sketches, images, etc of that you are planning...

It looks like we are on for a bigger space layout!

The purposed space layout for BrickMagic 2012 is on http://delvalug.com/

We can discuss it more at the next 2 meetings.

And Chris, there will probably be more Blacktron there if Phil can drop his MOCs off.

As far as the Blacktron-i-zone goes, what kind of collab-o-planning do we have? A list of mocs and their footprints? A parcel map? Flickr photos? Do we have a streetside standard?

I'd like to know so that I can scale the Blacktron Café appropriately (I have devious notions for making it semi-modular so that I can rescale it rapidly if plans change). Ooh, and maybe I want to do a Blacktron Arcade too. I've long had ambitions to build a video arcade streetside moc with wide-open frontage, and arcade-o-style would excuse interior colors beyond the strict Blacktron palette.

Japan gave me a lot of ideas for highly-decorated (if not traditionally euro-ornate), narrow and tall buildings. For instance, the blocks around Yokohama Station are crowded with video and pachinko arcades, karaoke, restaurants, etc.; and everything is turned vertically instead of sprawling horizontally. (Did I remember to get some establishing shots of that neighborhood?... Never mind, here's the Google StreetView of the corner with Tokyu Hands and Taito Game Station. A block south is Big Echo, then the Bic Building (best views are from the bridge). Japanese cities are packed with LEGO-colored structures.

It's going to be a free style space base this year due to lack of parts. I think we are going to be doing a lot more building and planning for next year now that there is a real interest. For now anything goes, but it will be put together creating some kind of coherency. It also really depends on how much time we have after setting up the town display. Nate's port and the wind farm will take some time to assemble, then we can dedicate the rest of the time to the space layout. Robin may decide to bleed their layout into ours as well. There will be some Blacktron, CS, neo-classic and lots of MOCs. Perhaps after putting this together we can organize it a bit tighter for the W.W. display.
