A train was spotted on LEGO's own town layout at LEGO world in Copenhagen and there is some discussion over weather this may be a new set hiding in plain sight.

It's no MOC, that's for sure. It's using parts we don't have access to yet (the Conveyor Belt) and parts in colors that they have never been produced in before (Dark Bluish Gray Rails, and a Red Power Functions Battery Box). This was made by LEGO themselves.

It certainly looks plausible as a set. It's the right size, looks to be about the right range in piece count, and has plenty of play features for a good set. It could be a discarded prototype but it looks pretty polished (those DG rails look molded in that color not painted) and it just seems odd that they would put a prototype out for display in front of thousands of public visitors that will never se production. LEGO normally does not do that sort of thing.

However if it's a real set destined for production then it also seems odd that it would be put out for display like that with no official announcement and no explanation. Again not something LEGO normally does. This is truly a mystery train at the moment.

I'm hoping it is a set as it looks pretty good. I like it better than the cargo train from last year to be honest. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

That's a nice design. On that same note, is that Lego's official layout that the Maersk Train was run on? What is that train that passes in front of it? If it's a MOC, I'd love to see more pictures of it anyway. If not, they've got a lot of interesting things lurking around there.

If its a set I would buy it for sure. Lots of nice stuff in that one.

I also noticed in the picture that highlights the little tipper car that there is another one of the flat cars with the cab on the back in the background.

Ok, I've been checking around and have heard some info that is supposedly reliable. Wink

* It is apparently a real set and is due to be released this summer. August has been mentioned.

* The price tag should be cheaper than 2010 train cargo set.

* The set will come with all the necessary Power Functions gear to run and an oval of track.

* There is indeed a red battery box (the triple AAA type) included in the set.

I've heard that it is indeed an upcoming set and that it's slated for around August from more than one place. Add to that the fact that there is more than one of these running around LEGO's own layout at LEGO World Copenhagen and I'm pretty confident that this thing is real.

It's surprising that LEGO would be releasing so many trains in such a short time. We had the Emerald Night in 2009, and then the big release of the Cargo and Passenger trains for the City line last year, and the Maersk train is coming in April this year. And now we have another City train coming later this year. The LEGO Train line hasn't looked this good in years. Now if we can just get some more smaller train themed sets to round things out and we'll be on our way to a true Train Rennisance.

I don't know what I think about the new set
I love the older set
http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=K4512-1
I have 4 of these sets the old dark grey and green really make it stand out
looks like lego just loves the red & white engines
http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?S=4563-1
grant it this new set looks good and will be a great set for kids
look at the pieces on the engine a 6x28 black train base rare lately but making a comeback
looks like 2 new red sante fe wind screens sorry bricklink
the only reason I can think of is to do a overseas set to counter the american 10219 set
but the train section is getting crowded if the set is powered by functions as it seems to be
the price is going to be 150+ it is not quite the cargo train and a bit bigger than the high speed
that will be 6 train sets / Potter / high speed / new cargo / emerald / maerske / now this one all from
$99.99-179.99 I think trains are great but other than the holidays the sales
slump
I was really hoping for a newer steam set and with the new sets coming it will be years before we see
any possible new steam Brick train
thanks for posting all your findings cale
