Lego Kidsfest Hartford 2010 stand-alone MOC planning
If you're planning to bring stand-alone MOCs to LEGO Kidsfest Hartford 2010 (anything that would need table space separate from the train layout), please reply here with information about what you are planning to bring. For small MOCs, please list the dimensions and any special display requirements (for example, can it go in front of or behind other MOCs). If you want to bring multiple and/or large MOCs, you can instead describe them in terms of tables needed. We will be using banquet tables, approximately 2x6 or 2x8 feet.
Please note that we don't know for sure that we will get all the space we request. I'll be talking to Jim Foulds to nail this down as soon as possible.
Thanks,
Chris

Re: Lego Kidsfest Hartford 2010 stand-alone MOC planning
I would need about a table, but can bring less if so needed. I have ... ofcourse, snails in many sizes, as well as my trans snail mosaic, lots of Modulex, and my Katamari Damacy thing.

I am planning on sending my white tri engine spaceship.

Re: Lego Kidsfest Hartford 2010 stand-alone MOC planning
Ok, I have a quick update:
Unfortunately, we've just gotten word that there won't actually be a lot of space at KidsFest. Preliminary forecasts showed that PennLUG would fill about 10 of the 10x10 spaces with our stuff, but the latest news is that we will only be getting reimbursement for 6 or 7 spaces. We may be able to get more space if we ask for it, but we won't get any additional reimbursement. I was planning to fill 2+ spaces with my own stuff, but it looks like that won't be happening! Exactly how we use our space will have to be discussed still. I had wanted to bring lots of things, but I'll likely be scaling it way back and bringing just a few things.

Re: Lego Kidsfest Hartford 2010 stand-alone MOC planning
I was going to bring my Space Container Ship ~32x220 studs long. Guess I won't bother if that's all the space we're getting. Our train layout could fill seven spaces. This really sucks.
Re: Lego Kidsfest Hartford 2010 stand-alone MOC planning
While I had originally hoped that our train layout could be 20x30 (effectively covering 6 spaces) I do not want to see our individual MOCs get shunted out of space. I am fine with cutting back to 20x20 (4spaces) and feel that we can still do a spectacular train display in that space. And while going smaller than 20x20 is not very appealing to me I'm wiling to compromise if need be to ensure that we can provide the broadest representation of our clubs talent as possible.
If we all pull together as a team I think we can still put on an awesome show.

Re: Lego Kidsfest Hartford 2010 stand-alone MOC planning
Hrmm. That is disappointing. With compensation for 6-7 spaces, does that cover everyone who's planning to go? If it does, then I think we can happily work within those constraints. If it doesn't, then what do we do?
I'll let the display coordinators (Cale & Chris, right?) let me know what of my stuff doesn't fit.

Re: Lego Kidsfest Hartford 2010 stand-alone MOC planning
I would not want to see the train layout reduced below 20x20. If we need to ask for a little extra space--even with no compensation--just to fit in the things that people want to show off, I think we may as well do that. No need to make ourselves doubly unhappy. The compensation is the tricky part, though. We already have more than 14 people who want to attend.

Re: Lego Kidsfest Hartford 2010 stand-alone MOC planning
We have more than 14 people who want to attend, but I think all we need is an eighth space and we'd be good, wouldn't we?
Anyway I am only bringing standalone MOCs as I don't have anything yet for the train layout. I would like to display the three Classic Space MOCs I already have along with their originals (for comparative purposes). I'll get dimensions and post them soon. I'd also like to display the Music again, though it went last year so it's not a problem if we need the space.

Re: Lego Kidsfest Hartford 2010 stand-alone MOC planning
As it turns out, getting more than 6 spaces may not be possible. The latest news is that the AFOL section as a whole cannot get any extra space, so it all depends on what space the other groups get. I will hopefully be able to squeeze 8 or 9 tables into the general MOC section to accommodate most of the stuff people want to bring.

Re: Lego Kidsfest Hartford 2010 stand-alone MOC planning
In case there's anyone who hasn't heard yet, PennLUG is back up to 8 10x10 spaces for Kidsfest. We'll have a 20x20 section for individual MOCs, so if anyone wants to bring something and hasn't mentioned it yet, there should be plenty of space. Everyone who posted already should have the space they need as well. Please continue to post here with info on whatever you want to bring.

Re: Lego Kidsfest Hartford 2010 stand-alone MOC planning
Once again, things have changed. It's looking extremely unlikely that we'll have all of the space we requested (no one will, because the total space allotted to AFOLs is a lot smaller than what we were promised). We're hoping that we won't get screwed out of the compensation for the space we're ready to fill, if the space isn't there. We're still waiting on the official answer on that.
We'll probably get essentially 5 of the 10x10 spots as opposed to 8, so we won't have a whole lot of space to display stand-alone MOCs. Unless this changes again through some miracle, people will have to pick and choose only a few things to showcase. We can make "good" use of the space if we cram a bunch of spaceships together on a table (I'm looking at you, Dave, Pete, and myself). As for what else we bring, it will be limited.
I'll post again if anything changes again.

What the hell is going on up there? I don't get why they couldn't have finalized this crap several weeks ago. This is ridiculous.

I know, right?
And I'm sorry that I'm making individual MOCs pay the price. I think it's the only viable option at this point, really.

Inconceivable!
We will do what ever we have to to make space. I don't want to see the individual MOCs get shorted on space. We'll make room where ever we can.
And yeah Life Marketing & Events is not winning any friends.

Re: Lego Kidsfest Hartford 2010 stand-alone MOC planning
Instead of being limited to two tabletop dimensions, I have various acrylic display pieces (and Museum Wax to secure items to their smooth surfaces) that can elevate/stack models (smallish ones, anyway). See the Philcon 2009 exhibit. I won't be at KidsFest myself, but maybe I can transfer the box of items to someone who is. Mike M. Who Lives Nearby Almost, are you going? PM me.
Have you considered hovering spacecraft above the town's rooftops, using trans-clear bricks? (Or trans-non-clear, for "antigravity beams.") Or have you rejected that juxtaposition on the grounds of thematic mish-mash?

Re: Lego Kidsfest Hartford 2010 stand-alone MOC planning
If I get my act together, I've got a number of those 6x5 panels in clear, purchased expressly to make stuff "fly." Of course, we can also stick train wheels on the bottom and shunt everything over to that display.... ;-)
