I was inspired by this O gauge model at a recent train show. I need more track side structures so I started doing some doodling.

I started by trying to replicate the stone work.

I have an actual brick built sample that I'll be bringing to the December Meeting tomorrow. If I build this it will take a lot of plates.

Here is an early mock up up I did before changing the way I wanted to do the stone work.

So I was thinking about this MOC a bit more. The thought occurred to me that this building may make a good starting point for a fruit packing warehouse. I have a Fruit Growers Express Reefer with plans to build more reefers in the future and wanted to an icing platform as well as a fruit packer to go with them. So if this structure does get built it will probably end up as a fruit packer (with some modifications of course.

Good start so far. You might want to vary up the brickwork to make it stand out a little bit more. I'd say throw in dark bley, dark gray, and old light gray, maybe with a splash of black. But it's your baby, so tend to it how you'd like to. :-)

You probably didn't get to see the wall sample I had at the meeting yesterday. I threw is some old light gray and a hint of dark gray to give it a more realistic look. I'll take a photo and post it up latter.

This is going to look brilliant when it's complete! If it's a fruit packer, will there be angels throwing the fruit at sinners? : P

It's not licensed by Nintendo. They just put it out there.

You mixed old and new gray- try to unify your color scheme. Also, it needs more greebles. *smacks crappy space commentary in the head*

That was the point. It's a mixture to make it more realistic.

Don't worry. I got the joke. Wink

The thing about space heads is that because they can completely make stuff up (trans dimensional warp drives?) and no one can say "hey, you can't do that" they have pick arbitrary stuff to complain about like colors. Razz

I experimented with the stone wall a bit more. I swapped out the 1x1 bricks for headlight bricks with 1x1 tiles. It adds a bit more texture to the wall.

Revised Wall

Track Side Warehouse. 4198436512_d9ce8cdfc5

I think I'm going to add a few of the 1x1 bricks back in and maybe work some 1x2 tiles in as well. Of course this is going way beyond my original idea of a quick building to use as filler in our train layouts. lol! But I like the direction it's going in.

I have my Fruit Growers Express Reefer and I have several more Ice Reefers in the planing stages. I wanted to build a fruit packing warehouse and an Ice House and Icing Platform for them. I think this building would make a good basis (with some modifications) for the fruit packer. I'll need to do an interior for it now, and then I still have the ice house and platform to do. Like some horrible government project gone a muck this is quickly escalating in scale and cost. affraid In fact this is starting to look like the basis for a whole section for a layout. The only question is with so many ideas and projects I want to do, what come first? scratch

Track Side Warehouse. Empty Wall revision #4

Post  Cale Mon Dec 28, 2009 10:59 pm

Added the dark gray corner stone detail and swapped a few bricks and plates around.

Track Side Warehouse. 4224419888_35174557c8

This is going quite a bit beyond the original inspiration. I've decided this will become a fruit packing warehouse. This and an ice house and icing platform for my planed reefer cars will make a great little layout section. But I may wait for LUG Bulk (I hope) to get some of the needed parts. This has turned from a quick build to a very large project. In the meantime I have plenty of other stuff I want to work on.
