Hi,

Has anyone seen this before? If so, how can you keep such a cool thing a secret?

www.legolease.com

A replacement cost of $1.25 per piece. I know what business to get into next.

*keeps all of the extra parts from sets and resells them*
This is pretty cool, Tony. I know a lot of people would probably do this and you know they are making a fortune on the missing parts. They would charge 50 cents for missing parts and still make a fortune. So long as they have all of your credit card information, it is just a matter of time before you are doomed.

Also, they just announced the end of LEGO Design By Me. Wouldn't that be something if a major BrickLink player stepped in and started a similar production?

Wow! This is one f the weirdest ideas I've seen in a while. So who is going to pay for LEGO that they can't keep. scratch Just the thought of that makes my head hurt. Brick

And how has LEGO not put the legal smack down on them yet?

The price for lost or very damaged sets is crazy! They could buy a new one, then have all the other left over parts and still come out way ahead after the cost difference between sets. Don't think there is a single set that is more than the replacement set charge. I checked to see if they had the Technic unimog or excavator, nope. Actually they do have the imperial flagship which they'd probably charge $300 to replace. It would be very interesting to see if they many people signed up.

This what Rent A Centers do to. You can easily spend $1000 in a year for a "borrowed" computer. This won't last.

Let's see, how might this website reasonably annoy the other trademark holders concerned?

* Use of "lego" in the URL.
* Use of the phrase "legos" ("My Legos", upper right corner).
* The phrase "NETFLIX of LEGO(R)". According to uspto.gov, "Netflix" is a registered trademark, even if the Netflix website doesn't bother with the (R) symbol.

Also, the sanitization page assures users that returned parts are sanitized at 212°F. Don't the instruction books warn about boiling your bricks? ...Or used to; I can't find any such warning in recent manuals, where "don't play in the carpet" is most prominent. ABS melts at 232°C or 450°F, so Lego Lease should be safe. I speculate that they'd use a steam bath rather than immersing the elements, to avoid a dry-the-nooks-and-crannies phase.

But what about stickers? Even if they survived the sanitizing, only one renter could apply them. Does LL buy extra sheets, somehow? Or omit them from the sets, with an explanation? There's no FAQ on this.
