Steamtown Railfest 2011 9/3-4
Mike M. and I are taking point on this year's Railfest and I have been in touch with Mark Brennan, the person we worked with last year. He would like to see a layout of the same size we did last year, and in the same place. The only difference is that we need to fill out a use-of-the-park application this time, and they would like to know how many people we will likely have. A rough estimate is fine, and I know BrickFair is more pressing for us at the moment, but if everyone who wants to go could post in here, that would be great. The event is September 3-4, which is the Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day weekend. Also, if anyone remembers the dimensions of our last layout, that would make planning eaiser. If not, I will ask Mark about the space and start from there.
As for accommodations, Dudley gave me the info for the hotel we stayed at last year, and I am going to see about group rates once I have a rough estimate of how many are coming and need a place to stay, so if you could also tell me in this thread if you will need a room, that would be helpful. Thanks!

I could probably make it that weekend, as long as I can get a ride.

We'll get you up there Rob.
Re: Steamtown Railfest 2011 9/3-4
I will be there! And I think Kyle will be too as well as my Fiancee Lindsey!
I'm really excited to do this event again!

You guy's can use any of my MOCs that you want. Sadly I can't be there for the show though.

How will all the MOCs (and tables, etc) that are usually transported with the trailer get to RailFest if Cale isn't going?

Probably renting a uhaul truck like last year. I will head over Cale's Thursday night, load it up, and probably pick everyone up at the train station on Friday morning. Same deal as last year minus Cale. We'll let him have the weekend off for a change
Re: Steamtown Railfest 2011 9/3-4
Hi, I know everyone has been busy with the upcoming Brick Fair, but Nate and I still need a head count for Steamtown so I can rent rooms. The layout will be the same size since it is in the same area as last year. Thank you
The count so far is:
Josh
Lindsey
Kyle

Cale's dad has been nice enough to let us use his red pick-up truck. We are in need of a trailer for the weekend (Thursday-Monday).
Re: Steamtown Railfest 2011 9/3-4
Just a reminder to please confirm if you are going to Steamtown if you have bot done so already. Mike M and I would like to lock in the room ASAP. Thanks.

We will miss ya Rob.

If anyone has something to contribute to the layout that isn't at Cale's house, please bring it with you to Rob's house.
Thanks

Re: Steamtown Railfest 2011 9/3-4
Do we have any updates or details about this up coming weekend? And what time are we meeting up in Steamtown to start setting up?

Mike M will be picking up the trailer in York Friday morning and picking me up on the way. I don't know exactly what time we're shooting for yet, but as early as possible. We have all day Friday to set up, and I will have a pretty specific plan ready for us, so we should be good.
I actually have a couple questions for you as well. How big will your layout contribution be overall, and what shape is it?
Also, what times/days will you guys be there?
Re: Steamtown Railfest 2011 9/3-4
I'm bringing just Tamaqua... so it's the same size and shape as my brickfair section of the layout...

Is there enough space for the station?
Also do you want to do swooping curves? -If we don't we can have more of a downtown section
Could you post a pic of the proposed layout on flickr?
I want to get there early... like between 7 and 8 AM, what's the earliest we can be there?

Re: Steamtown Railfest 2011 9/3-4
Timing is mostly going to be up to Mike, because he's got to come the furthest.
There should definitely be room for your section of the layout.
I want to do our regular curves because it will make more room for everything else and make setup easier, I think.
I will post a picture today or tomorrow as soon as it's done.

Re: Steamtown Railfest 2011 9/3-4
Nate, let me know what times I can pick you up at the station Paoli or Thorndale. That's going to determine what time we get to Steamtown. I will be packed the night before with Cale's help.
Re: Steamtown Railfest 2011 9/3-4
The train stops at Paoli at 6:22 7:01 7:31 7:54 8:12 8:28
Thorndale is 6:43 7:57 8:49
If any of those times to Thorndale square well with your plans, we can do that, if not, Paoli would work equally well for me. I don't care how early it is. I'm happy to get as early a start as possible. I will have a couple medium sized boxes and my suitcase.
Oh and Mike, are you bringing the windfarm?

I think you've done an excellent job on the plan Nate. I wish I could be there to help you guys out. But I'll send my trains and buildings for you to use. The trailer is lined up and the locomotives are being fired up as we speak.

It'll be interesting to see how having the side streets extend beyond the back street works out. Take lots of pictures.

Wow Thorndale is earlier than I thought, that will save a lot of driving time. Let's try for the 6:43am there. I will park Cale's truck and trailer at the Wawa across the street and meet you on the platform.
Re: Steamtown Railfest 2011 9/3-4
So if you are picking Nate up at 6:45, we are meeting at Steamtown around 9:00AM? Because you're drive will be about 2 hours?
