LUG owned items Empty LUG owned items

I was curious how items that are LUG owned are handled. There is to my surprise an interest in a LUG here in MT and nipping a potential issue in the future would be prudent.

Pennlug has grown to include a trailer. I gathered this was purchased with group funds. How is this registered/insured under a group name? Or is it privately registered and maintained with an agreement of some sort? I actually own an enclosed trailer very similar to pennlug's so it's available anyway but how wear and tear etc would be handled could eventually be an issue. Events happen at much greater distance here.

Items that come from TLG. banners, sets, bulk brick and other items. How is this handled when presented to a LUG rather than an individual?

In the beginning I know individuals take on various aspects for the good of the club but eventually you need to have a structure and by laws to avoid misunderstandings. Keeping it as simple as possible is always the best route but eventually you need some rules.

This varies and still gets argued about. Most "club resources" are understood to be on long-term loan from somebody and it'd likely be nearly impossible to split everything back out.

Unfortunately since PennLUG isn’t a legal entity it can’t actually “own” anything. I believe the trailer is in Cale’s name. There’s been talk of incorporating but it’s just more cost and work than we’ve been willing to do due.

I know some of the track sections have return address labels or some other type of name label on them to identify who owns/built them
