Hi all,

The Penn First LEGO League is looking for volunteers to staff two competitions (a qualifying event and championship tournament) in Feb. 2013.

Volunteer roles include judges, photographers, score keepers, and more. Additional information (including dates and locations) can be found here:

I’m not involved with these events (just heard about them through a friend), so please refer to the following contact page if you have questions:

Hmm. This sounds interesting -- I've been meaning to do something STEM-ish, because I don't feel I'm doing enough to promote the next generation of sci-engi-technologists by working with Philcon, and local school districts don't allow adults to help unless they're parents. Saturdays in February, eh?

Even if none of the volunteer-roles involve Mindstorms engineering, I should probably get around to practicing with my set. Being out-thought in this arena by callow youths, 20 years after teaching with LEGO TC LOGO, would just be embarrassing. Smile

Phil (or Anyone),

I highly recommend volunteering at one of these events. (Warning, it is very loud with kids yelling and cheering.) A few years ago I coached 2 teams different years. It was loads of fun for both me and the kids. Since then I have judged a few of these events to keep my hands in it. (And to "borrow" ideas from some of the teams.)

It really is amazing to see what some of these kids come up with. Totally worth it your time being there just to see the kids getting so much from the whole program.

I will be volunteering at the Feb 9th event. I'd also do the Feb 2nd event except I'm hosting the club meeting that same day. Although I would consider switching to the March if someone else really wanted to host in February. I've already asked for a delay in my hosting so I won't ask again unless someone else asks for it.
