The Hobbit Movie Event
Is there any interest in organizing a group trip to KoP to see The Hobbit? I was thinking the evening of Dec 21st. We could try for opening weekend, but that might be more "crazy" than some people are prepared for.
Any thoughts?

Re: The Hobbit Movie Event
There are going to be way too many wack-job fruitcakes out there on Fri the 21st, waiting for the end of the world. NOT going out that night of I can help it.
Re: The Hobbit Movie Event
End Of The World is something I had not taken into consideration.
Maybe Dec 22nd to celibrate that we have not died?!

Re: The Hobbit Movie Event
I would be interested.
If we're debating dates, keep in mind that AAA discount passes generally become valid 10 days after a movie opens, which generally means catching the third weekend instead of the first, a wait I'm generally willing to endure. (Yes, I'm willing to share them and I have enough to go around; $7 for an $11 screening is a good deal.)

Re: The Hobbit Movie Event
I like me some discounts! Especially if people are looking to do IMAX (would be sweet).
The only problem with waiting another week, is that weekend is Christmas weekend... the weekend after that is New Year's weekend....
Not sure how busy people are or how long they are willing to wait.

Re: The Hobbit Movie Event
Never mind... The 21/22 is Christmas weekend!! This is what I get for posting when I'm too tired.
If the weekend of Christmas is too busy for people, as I'm sure it is... How about going the 29th? That will be the 3rd weekend it is out.. 2 weeks after org release.
I dont want to go when you have to get there 1hr early just to get a seat.. But i dont want to wait too long either. I would personally like to see it with some crowds in the theater. Fans make a movie experience more fun for this type of film, I think.

Re: The Hobbit Movie Event
@Phil- How do you get AAA discount passes? I'm a AAA member but never tried a discount.
Re: The Hobbit Movie Event
Ok. Group to see the Hobbit at KoP.
Dec 28th or 29th...
What do we think?

Re: The Hobbit Movie Event
UA King of Prussia Stadium 16 & IMAX
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, at 2 hr 49 min, rated PG-13
* Showtimes Friday 12/28
** HFR IMAX 3D = 11:00, 14:50, 18:50, 22:40
** HFR 3D (no passes) = 11:40, 15:40, 19:30
** 2D = 16:10, 20:10
* Showtimes Saturday 12/29
** Same times
Any preferences as to format, and afternoon/evening time? If Friday, I suggest HFR-3D at 19:30 or 2D at 20:10. (I don't care for the IMAX theater at this location.) If Saturday, anything after noon.
Note that:
* There's a 70% chance of snow on Saturday.
* "No passes" films can (usually) be viewed with my AAA passes, after paying a surcharge; even so, it's less than the rack rate.

Re: The Hobbit Movie Event
Is there a location that you like the IMax? Neshaminy? Is KOP the best place to organize this event? I was using KOP because it is close to me, but I am not dead set on it.

Re: The Hobbit Movie Event
Looks like our babysitting options leaves us only with Saturday afternoon coverage. Everyone is welcome to see a Friday show, but I won't be able to join.

Re: The Hobbit Movie Event
As of Friday 10:30, the forecast shows a 100% chance of periods of snow on Saturday, accumulating 1-3 inches. Are people -- the few who've responded -- still interested in Saturday, or shall we delay to Sunday, or abandon the idea altogether? Also, do we want to meet for a meal (before or after, depending on showtime)?
FWIW I have no preferred IMAX location, because I don't care for regular movies on IMAX screens, period. I've seen two at KoP -- Harry Potter 3 and Avatar 1 -- and both felt too big and stretched-out. The non-cinema IMAX screens I've experienced have all been at museums, showing filmed-for-IMAX subjects. (KoP is central to all interested parties, regardless of format, yes/no? Is any other location preferable if we drop the special-format criterion?)

Re: The Hobbit Movie Event
I saw it with family yesterday, you DO NOT want to miss this movie in the theaters. I'm up for Sunday. I'm with Phil that going out in a storm isn't worth the danger.
KoP
Oaks
East Whiteland
Downingtown
KoP is probably the easiest if KC, Mark, Phil, Mac, Evie are the ones going.

Re: The Hobbit Movie Event
Sunday might make more sense. I will start checking with sitter coverage and see if I can hop on the Sunday crowd. I think the 2:50 time would work best for my daughter's schedule. I doubt I could meet for food before/after because the movie will already be taking so much time (but food is always nice!)
Re: The Hobbit Movie Event
Yup. Sunday. Now that Freyr has passed and Sunday's forecast is freezing, partly cloudy, windy (NW at 21 mph), but not precipitating (10% chance). We do have to decide on a time and format:
Showtimes for Sun 12/30
* HFR IMAX 3D - 11:00, 14:50, 18:50, 22:40
* HFR 3D - 11:40, 15:40, 19:30
* 2D - 16:10, 20:10
I propose non-IMAX HFR 3D at 15:40 (through ~18:00). Do I hear a second?

Re: The Hobbit Movie Event
11:40 and 2:50 are the only times that will work with Abby's schedule. I have coverage for 2:50; 11:40 would require me to check availability of my sitter coverage. But if a different time works better for everyone else, please don't let me hold up the group.

Re: The Hobbit Movie Event
Sunday (today) at 14:50 (IMAX HFR 3D) in KoP is doable for me. Do we have consensus on that?
Shall we meet in the theater lobby c.14:30-:40? I'll have the passes ("Regal Entertainment Group VIP Super Saver Movie Ticket") with me -- have cash with you, because you'll need to pay a surcharge at the ticket window. Don't forget your Regal Crown Card for loyalty points.

Re: The Hobbit Movie Event
Will we be buying the tickets right before showtime? what about the possibility of it being sold out?

Re: The Hobbit Movie Event
Sold out, two weeks after opening (Box Office Mojo daily gross), early afternoon? Unlikely. Although more likely because it's an IMAX theater, which are rare. But less likely because it's an IMAX theater, which is more expensive.
Buying tickets ahead of time through Fandango, there's no discount -- the VIP Super Saver tickets must be redeemed at the ticket window -- and, in fact, a service charge. But if anyone is feeling skittish, go ahead. Me, I'll be taking a chance.
