2013 Jan 12 - 13th Greenberg Train & Toy York PA
York PA
York is January 12th and 13th from 10am to 4pm each day. Set up would be on Friday the 11th and before show opening on Saturday. York is a smaller show compared to some of the other Greenbergs, but one that's still very well attended. I've gone to it in previous years as a spectator and there has always been a good crowd. It's also home turf for me and I have plenty of York related MOCs to show off so it's (some what selfishly I admit)it's one I really want to do. We wouldn't need to do a massively huge layout but If we can get a few other members onboard I think we can put together a really nice display.

We talked about York and Reading shows on Sat. We are planning to do 20x20 layouts at both shows. I can work at least Sat and Sun for both events. Fridays will depend on my work schedule.
Re: 2013 Jan 12 - 13th Greenberg Train & Toy York PA
I can theoretically be there the whole time, but I'd need a place to crash, as york is a bit far for me to commute.
Re: 2013 Jan 12 - 13th Greenberg Train & Toy York PA
Just as an update, Greenberg has received our registration. They will not be assigning spaces for another 6 to 8 weeks but there shouldn't be any problem with having room for us.

Update. We've been approved for up to a 20ft x 31ft train layout. I have some ideas for a layout plan. I'll try to get something up soon. And yes Josh. We'll be doing big curves.

At some point during the December meeting I would like to gather together all those interested in doing this show so we can start to form a plan for our layout. Nate and I talked about a few ideas at Kidsfest this past weekend but I would like to get the input of others and also get an idea of what size layout we think we can best accomplish.

I won't be able to make the December meeting. My wife had a death in family, but we are still interested in helping out for the York show.

Sam,
Please offer my condolences to your wife.
I should be able to help out at least some of the time on Saturday and/or Sunday. If I can only be there one day, is there a preference for which day would be most helpful? Tear-down perhaps?

Friday would be the most useful day. Most of us can't make it then and the size of the layout depends on the Friday crew setting it up.

I'll have to work until 3:30. I may be able to come over after that. How late can we work?

We can be there until 7pm on Friday night. And I think that we can get back in at 7am on Sat.

Set up begins at 12 noon on Friday the 11th and goes until 7:30pm. We can resume set up at 7:30am Saturday. The show hours are 10am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday.

Re: 2013 Jan 12 - 13th Greenberg Train & Toy York PA
So I have started working on the layout plan.
It's still very early but it gives some idea of what we could do. This layout is 18.5 ft x 27 ft. Considering we can only occupy a maximum space of 20 ft X 31 ft that doesn't leave much room for any stanchions down the long sides.
I wanted to include Josh's ravine from the AOW layout. The first logical place I came up with was between the sweeping curves which resulted in the 18.5 ft width. On the bright side though that increased width made more room for Brian's farm on the opposite side of the layout.
Brian's farm is directly cut and pasted from the configuration for our AOW layout. It fits ok into this area but is certainly open for ideas on making it work better. The siding from AOW will need to be dropped though as there isn't enough straight track on the main to work it in.

Re: 2013 Jan 12 - 13th Greenberg Train & Toy York PA
I received the floor plan today for the York Greenberg show. It turns out we will not be in the Toyota arena like I had previously thought. We will actually be in Memorial Hall East. For those of you familiar with the York Fairgrounds we'll be in the newer wing of Memorial hall that was added a few years ago. http://www.yorkexpo.com/mem_hall.html
I don't think we will be able to drive into the hall but we're not far from the overhead door so we shouldn't have far to bring our stuff in. It looks like we'll be one of 6 layouts on display. All the layouts are at the opposite end of the show floor from the entrance, no doubt to help drive the public through the vendor area. Interestingly we are in the corner behind Northern Central Supply (they're a vendor) so it's not the best spot but that's ok. When the public hears there's a LEGO layout they'll find us.

I know this is rather last min.. But is there anything I can contribute to the layout? (other than my help with setup/break down)
Re: 2013 Jan 12 - 13th Greenberg Train & Toy York PA
Do you have anything in mind, like a building in downtown? or any idea for the open spaces? It's all open, if you have something to fill it, great! Just let us know.

That is a larger castle MOC that I'm working on (long term project).. I doubt it would fit with the town & train layout... but I will be looking for a good place to unveil it this year.. that might be BrickFair though

I can bring the junkyard and Snail Emporium. I can not be at the main setup Fri due to work, but I can be there early Sat morning if I can stay on someone's sofa or floor. Can also help with teardown on Sunday. I will not be at the Jan meeting.
If you do NOT want my help, please let me know that too. Need to plan.

Greenberg Train show York
Any Idea when you want to start setting up on Friday? I am off all day & will probably head to York early to check out some of my favorite stores in town.

I think that Cale and I (and maybe Nate + others?) are planning on starting setup at noon. Help is always appreciated.
