Hey everyone. Last year I found out that a library near me was holding a LEGO sculpture exhibition (for kids) and contacted them about adult participation. They invited myself and PennLUG to show off some of our creations. KC, Trevor, Phil and I attended. We weren't eligible for the contest; instead, we served as inspiration for the kids. They set up tables in prime locations for us to display things. The event was a huge success for the library, and there was immediate talk of making it an annual event.

I was just contacted about this year's event. It will be on August 4th, which is the day before BrickFair starts! I'm hoping I'll have the time to bring something to the exhibition, but I don't know for sure.

Anyway, the library's website is here: http://www.easttownlibrary.org/
The schedule of events has a little more info about the Exhibition: http://www.eventkeeper.com/code/events.cfm?curOrg=CCL&curKey1=Easttown%20Library
My photos from last year's event are here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cjedwards47/sets/72157621879228890/

I realize that any planning to do this in conjunction with BrickFair would be difficult (to say the least), but who's potentially interested? It wouldn't be the kind of place to do a big layout or anything else that requires a lot of space or a lot of setup anyway.

I'd like to do something. They are customers of mine and I live very close too. Timing and time off from work may be an issue with Brick Fair. Do you have any more info such as set up time, is it an all day event, stuff like that?

I'm in...

The description from the event calendar:
"Lego Sculpture Exhibition (All ages) Wed. Aug. 4, 6 p.m. Create a unique Lego sculpture for exhibition and fun. Individuals, partners, and groups may submit entries. Include the backstory of your sculpture on an index card (maximum five sentences) for consideration for a special award. Judges will include Beaumont Elementary School Teachers Mr. Parrotta, Mr. Ricci and Ms. Senior. Participants should plan on delivering their Lego sculptures 10 a.m. – 6 p.m the day of the exhibition (Aug. 4th). People’s Choice voting will occur between 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. and awards will be presented between 7:30 – 8 p.m. Registration for this event begins Mon., June 21."

This description is tailored to the kids who will be participating, so not all of it applies to us.

LEGO Sculpture Exhibition at the Easttown Library in Berwyn (August 4, 2010) Empty Event post-mortem

Entries to kids contest: Over 70
PennLUG reps: Three (Chris E., Mike M., Phil T.)
PennLUG model builders: Five (six?) incl. Evie M., Joel M.

Wow, that was crowded and boisterious. What was there? Photo set at Flickr with 27 pics, 16 of theirs and 11 of ours.

The kids' models ran the usual spectrum for ages 5-10: a lot of color and structural incoherence with large hunks of official models, oodles of guns on most (not all) of the male entries, but a few had good concepts and mature execution.

PennLUG had to burst the usual bubble (no, we don't work for LEGO), a bubble that was repeatedly inflated because I chose to wear my KoP-opening yellow official logo knit shirt, instead of my lime DelVaLUG tee. We handed out a few PennLUG business cards and Philcon flyers.
