Wal-mart and my Echo Base Experience
So my wife was being sweet and bought me the over priced Echo Base from Walmart in Quakertown. Well I was ready to dig in to check out the the set and I open the box to only find 1 polly bag and I'm thinking wow they fit everything into one polly bag?
Upon taking it out of the box I noticed no figs, no hats, guns, no Taun taun... so I took it back they had 4 more on the shelf no worries right? Wrong...
I immediately felt the weight and shock the boxes all too light just like my original; so I buy one and open it in front of the cashier who is dumbfounded that I'd do such a thing but I find what I feared missing parts.
I walk back to the isle and grab the remaining boxes because I don't want some kid to innocently get nailed by this as I have; so I take them up to customer service and I explain my story which they don't seem to care about; but they open the other two to find them in the same condition, in the end I got my money back, but it's sad to think someone bought these and took out the expensive elements only to return them as new. I guess I wanted to rant so if your still reading thanks for reading

Re: Wal-mart and my Echo Base Experience
Were they sealed? That would determine whether it was a theft or a packing error. They have some of those at the Hilltown Walmart, if you want to check those too.
Re: Wal-mart and my Echo Base Experience
They were sealed, but the internal bags were obviously opened and resealed themselves.
I don't think this was a LEGO packing error, this was theft and very craftily put together.

Re: Wal-mart and my Echo Base Experience
Scary. Makes me think I should open up some of the larger sets I've bought recently that I haven't already opened just to make sure all the pieces are there.
Re: Wal-mart and my Echo Base Experience
I wouldn't doubt it that the figs were stolen from the box, and the set was returned resealed. Star Wars figs are a hot commodity, no matter how recent they are. They probably resold them on eBay for a nice chunk of change.
But the smartest Lego thief by far was good old Bill Swanberg. He switched UPCs on expensive sets to get them really cheap, then sell the parts for a huge profit. Oh yeah, I think he was an admin for BrickLink. I think I even still have an old printed invoice from when I bought something off of him in 2004. I didn't know then...He wasn't caught until two years later.

Re: Wal-mart and my Echo Base Experience
I remember hearing about that. the UPC switch. I guess if the cashier's don't pay attention it might slide by. Crazy what some people will do.
Re: Wal-mart and my Echo Base Experience
There are times were I wish I could do it. If it weren't for moral principals (not to mention the fear of getting caught) I could see myself doing it. hehe Kidding of course.maarek wrote:I remember hearing about that. the UPC switch. Re: Wal-mart and my Echo Base Experience
It used to be possiable to switch them in the past. Can't do it anymore because UPC's are not stickers anymore like they used to be.
